Del Mar
Del Mar is the only meet in southern California that I want to bet. I will do a Betting Window for a few big days at Santa Anita, but I am not interested in betting that track, nor Los Alamitos, on a steady basis. A handful of trainers dominate the small fields yielding short prices. Del Mar is different. It is like Saratoga. This meet runs concurrently with Saratoga, offers quality racing and, for the most part, big fields, especially on the turf. 2-year-old racing, like Wesley Ward at Keeneland, is dominated by Bob Baffert. There are plenty of races where Baffert is not in play that will provide opportunities. The beauty of Del Mar is that the weather is glorious. Unlike every other track for which I produce products, you never have to worry about weather. Every day, the main track is fast, and the turf course is firm. What you do have to take note of are track biases. The main track can change from day to day. Since Del Mar is a stone’s throw from the Pacific Ocean, there have been many discussions on how the tide plays a role in how the dirt will play. I believe this to be true.
